Ceramic Reptile HeatingCeramic Reptile Heating
Ceramic heaters work by emitting infra red heat waves. They do not produce any visible light. The heat produced is a deep heat that penetrates muscle tissue. These ceramic heaters have very high surface temperatures so must always be guarded and controlled by a thermostat.
Reptile Heat CablesReptile Heat Cables
Heat cables are just that - cables that produce heat, the heat cables work by heating the surface they are in contact with. They are typically used for heating snake racking systems or can be used to provide localised heating in large enclosures by wrapping them around branches inside an enclosure. When choosing the length always remember the first metre is an unheated cold run in.
Reptile Heat MatsReptile Heat Mats
Heat mats work by emitting infra red waves, these waves will heat whatever they come into contact with. It the mat is placed under substrate it will heat the substrate, if it is mounted on the side of a vivarium (inside) it will heat the objects (including your reptile) that are in its line of sight up to a few inches. It will not heat air, and although they are low wattage they are capable of building up high temperatures so should be used with a thermostat.
Reptile Heat RocksReptile Heat Rocks
Reptile heat rocks are only usefull for producing a basking area, they will not heat an enclosure and should never be used as a primary heat source. They are generally only suitable for nocturnal reptiles that bask on rocks that have been warmed from the sun during the day (research your species!) Although modern day heat rocks now contain internal thermostatic control, as with any heat source they should be independently thermostatically controlled.
Reptile Infra Red lampsReptile Infra Red lamps
The Infra red lamps work by emitting infra red heat waves much like the ceramic heaters. The difference between these and ceramic heaters is that these also produce light. A very dim red light that makes them suitable for nocturnal as well a diurnal species. The dim red light also enables you to view your nocturnal species without disturbing them at night.
