We know how difficult it can be deciding on the correct set up for your new reptile so we have put together this basic starter kit so all you need to do is buy the gecko.
The difference between our starter kits and other ones is that we are actually reptile keepers so we have put this kit together based on what works and what doesn't through experience,
Whats included in the kit?..
An Exo Terra large flat faunarium - this cost effective enclosure is ideal for a couple of baby leopard geckos and will last until their adult life. Although some breeders do use these enclosure as permanent housing for their breeding geckos.
a 6 x 11 Heatmat - to place under one end of the enclosure to provide a warm end and allow your gecko to thermoregulate. The heat mat provided will be made by Eurorep scotland and will either be branded as Pro-Rep, Komodo or Habistat depending on what we have in stock at the time but as they are all made in the same factory it shouldnt matter what the package says as these are all made in the same factory and are the most reliable and safe heat mats on the market.
two small exo terra caves - one for the warm end and one for the cool end,
two lees mealworm dishes - one for mealworms and one for fresh drinking water.
Reptile sand - enough sand to cover the base of the enclosure, some people (especially on forums) do not advise you use sand due to impaction worries, we personally have never had a problem with sand but you dont have to use it!
Sphagnum Moss - enough moss to create a moisture hide, this moss needs to be placed under one of the caves and kept slightly moist to provide a shedding cave.
Komodo leopard gecko insect dust - a multi vitamin calcium powder for using on the geckos livefoods.
What isn't included and why?
A thermostat - we haven't included a thermostat to keep the cost of the basic kit down, if used correctly the heat mat will provide a gentle warmth that the gecko can lay on with out being burnt. We do strongly advise you purchase a habistat mat stat though to keep accurate control over the heat mat which would prevent it from overheating in the summer etc.
Thermometers - stick on dial thermometers are not suited to this enclosure as the plastic walls are too thin and the air vents are close to where the dial would be placed giving a false temperature reading, an accurate temperature could only be taken using a digital thermometer with external probe in this type of enclosure as these cost approx £20 we have left it out of this kit, we would advise you obtain one so you can be sure you are providing the correct temperatures, if the set up is installed as advised the temperatures will be ideal for a leopard gecko but use of a thermometer is good practice just in case there are any problems with your set up.
