Somerset Sedge Peat comes from a single compact site on the Somerset Levels.
The peat is extracted in late Autumn and allowed to drain through the winter. In Spring an intensive process of drying and moving goes on until late Summer when the peat is dry enough. It is hauled from the fields to a large heap alongside the peat factory. Here the process of self heating, self sterilising and composting goes on until the peat is needed.
The peat is free of natural pests such as sciarid fly. In the peat factory the peat is milled and screened. None of the Peat land is a Site of Strategic Scientific Interest (SSSI
